Aviator Sunglasses That Make A Fashion Statement

Monday, January 31st, 2011

If you have never owned a pair of aviator sunglasses, you may want to purchase a pair as they can make a fashion statement while protecting your eyes from the sun. They can look great on anyone and you will definitely be noticed. The term Aviator represents a specific style of shades that is made by many different companies.

Although there are many types and styles of sunglasses available, these glasses have been popular for decades. In fact, lets take a trip down memory lane and find out the history of these shades. These shades were actually used by pilots when they were on duty in the 1930s. They have very strong, sturdy frames and the tear drop lenses protect the eyes from sun and strong wind. From that point on, they have been popular ever since. You will even see famous celebrities wearing these cool shades.

Aviator sunglasses are available for men and women. The lenses can come in many different colors such as black, brown, green and grey and other several colors. It all depends on your style preference as well as what will look good on you. If you do your research, you will find that they are affordable whether you shop at a store or online. Customers may be able to afford a couple of pairs to go with their wardrobe. As was mentioned earlier, the lenses are shaped like a big tear drop for more coverage to protect our eyes from the damaging rays of the sun. Eyewear should always have at least 100% UV protection. Polarized lenses offer really good protection for the eyes as well. Not only do they protect them from the sun, but they also protect from the reflections of snow, water, or glass. Once you have experienced polarized lenses, you will definitely be in love with how they actually work.

So go ahead and make a fashion statement with these wonderful shades. Men could wear those leather bomber jackets and pull off the right look with brown aviators. Women could wear a beautiful black trench coat with trendy black boots and wear black aviators to complement the look. Also, think of all the celebrities that have worn them in the past, in movies, and of course, they are still wearing them today.

As you take a look at the wide variety of colors, you will definitely have a fun time with this popular style. This particular style has been around for decades, and it continues to become more fashionable than ever! Aviator sunglasses are a must in anyones eyewear collection!

Preparing For Your Flight

Monday, January 31st, 2011

When preparing for a trip it is easy to focus your attention on your destination. After all, where you are going is why you are going in the first place! However, there are many things that must not go overlooked when preparing for your flight.

1. Familiarize yourself with the airports before you leave. At the very least you will need to navigate in your airport of departure and your airport of arrival, with transfers further complicating matters. Airports can be labyrinths. Even if you have been to a particular airport in the past, it is a good reminder to spend some preparation time familiarizing yourself with each airport as airports change, and large airports have a number of gates and platforms that you may not have utilized on your last flight.

2. Get there early. Airlines typically suggest arriving 2 hours before your flight is scheduled. This may seem like a long time, but such a window is needed to insure that you do not miss your flight. Depending upon the day, security can take a long time to pass through. Parking, taking a tram, navigating through the airport, and checking your bags all take time. “Better late than never” has no meaning when trying to board a plane.

3. Pack snacks. Airport food is expensive, and you will spend hours in airports in route to your destination.

4. Have your cell phone charged ahead of time. In the event that your flight is delayed or cancelled, you may need to spend considerable time on the phone making other arrangements. It is also a good idea to pack your phone charger in your carry-on bag. Remember, you will not have access to your luggage until you land (assuming it isn’t lost in transit), so having it available is important to being able to communicate when needed.

5. Bring something to do. There is a lot of dead time associated with air travel. In addition to your time on the plane, there is also a lot of time spent waiting in airport terminals. Reading materials are readily available at the airport, but for elevated prices.

6. Use a lanyard to keep your important travel information handy. Numerous times while navigating through the airport you will need to present important information such as your passport, and/or a government ID. These items can be easily placed around your neck, attached to a lanyard. Instead of sorting through your wallet or your purse for these items, all you will have to do is take them out of the pouch that is around your neck, attached to your lanyard. Consider a designed or beaded lanyard as a way of complimenting your outfit. For your safety, be sure to purchase a breakaway lanyard, though even most beaded lanyards are made with this safety feature.

7. Wear comfortable clothing. Traveling is tiring. Miles are walked from the time you leave your automobile to the time you board your plane, so wear walking shoes. You may want to take a nap on the plane or as you wait to board, so wear something that you will be comfortable in.

Follow these simple tips your flight will be a lot better.

What You Need To Know About Airport Security

Monday, January 31st, 2011

The world has forever changed since September 11, 2001. Americans have experienced first-hand the devastation that terrorism brings. As a result, the airline industry, along with the federal government, has continued to improve security measures for air travel.

There has been a lot of press lately concerning the full body scans now being performed by the new imaging machines that are becoming available in airports across the country. Many claim the machines are an invasion of privacy, while others are willing to sacrifice a little privacy for the peace of mind that security provides.

As of right now, it is not mandatory that you pass through a body scan machine to board a plane. However, you may be given that option, or you may be asked to do so if security screeners feel you may be hiding something. Should you refuse the body scan, you may request to instead be subject to a comprehensive “pat down” which can be performed at the security gate, or in a private room.

To the majority of travelers (law-abiding citizens harboring no ill intent), these security measures can be irritating. To be singled out and subjected to additional security measures can be embarrassing. However, it is important to remember that these measures are important in preventing terrorist attacks. You may not be a terrorist, but these security measures allow screeners to identify those individuals who are dangerous.

There are some things you can do that will help your security check go smoothly:

1. Relax. If you are nervous about passing through security, chances are the screeners will pick up on it. If you don’t have anything to hide, then don’t act like it. Security personnel are trained to look for suspicious behavior, and you being nervous can give them a false positive. Look screeners in the eye, speak confidently, and relax. Security officers can be intimidating, but remember they are there to keep you safe.

2. Pack medicines and pills in their original packaging. It may be nothing for you to throw a few aspirins in a Ziploc bag and put them in your pocket, or to put a few of your prescriptions together in one medicine box, but security officers need to know just what it is you are transporting. Medicine in its original packaging alleviates suspicion and cuts down on hold ups at the gate.

3. Pack electronics so that they are easy to get to. You may be asked to have all your electronic devices inspected. If they are buried underneath everything else in your bag, not only will it take you a long time to get to them, but you will have a mess to hurriedly put back together.

4. Have important identification information easily accessible. At the very least you will need your government ID, passport, and plane ticket available. You could keep it all in your pockets or purse, but consider placing those items in an ID badge holder and wearing it around your neck on a lanyard. A basic ID badge holder will certainly be large enough to hold your ID, but you may need to look for a larger one in order to be able to stick your passport in there as well. Having those items on a lanyard around your neck allows you to pull them out on demand.

With these little tips your security check will be faster and less painful for everybody.

Lanyards and Badge Holders: Great Accessories for Travelers

Monday, January 31st, 2011

“Back in the day”, men and women could travel the friendly skies without ever having to fear criminal or terrorist activities. Unfortunately, those golden days are gone, and now have come the days of baggage searches, body searches, invasive x-ray machines, grabby airport security, and the suspicious eyes of everyone on board with you. Not only must you submit yourself for physical searches and seizures, but you must show proof that you are who your ticket says you are. In the golden days of air travel you only had to produce a purchased ticket, now you have to produce your purchased ticket, valid government issued ID, your blood type, donor card, the social security number of your best friend’s mother’s uncle, and produce a list of your favorite flavors of coffee.

Okay so that last few of the things on that list are fabricated, but how much longer before they’re the standard? In the meantime, you are required to carry your ID and present it at every opportunity for strict security purposes. The problem with this travel hassle is that you cannot just carry your ID in your hand everywhere. What happens if you put it down to pick up your lunch order and forget it? You’re stuck having to dash back 40 gates to where you had lunch to find it. Or what happens if you present the ID, go to place it your pocket, and miss the pocket completely? Now you have no idea where it ended up, but you need it in order to board the plane!

This travel hassle can be fixed very easily and inexpensively. You can buy and use lanyards and badge holders specifically made to hold your ID in place securely around your neck. With lanyards and badge holders, you can place your ID in a badge holder, clip that to your lanyard, and place the lanyard around your neck. With this genius set of accessories you just put it on and forget about it until you need to flash your ID. Once you’ve shown your ID to the appropriate check point personnel, you just let it fall back against your chest and move along. No worrying about getting it directly into your pocket, or putting it back into its snug pouch in your purse.

A great thing about lanyards and badge holders is that they can be customized for your personal tastes. Not only are there ribbon lanyards, but there are also beaded lanyards that come in many different colors, designs, and patterns of beads. Not only does your lanyard provide ease of access to your ID while you travel, but it’s also a fashion statement you make that says, “I was smart and wore this lanyard, now I can travel without worry of ID theft or loss.” Beaded lanyards are a little more costly than their ribbon cousins, but if you really want something stylish to hang around your neck during those long hours of flight, you can’t go wrong with personalized beaded lanyards and badge holders.

Reel Important Security Measures: Work Place ID Security

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Everyone has seen a movie or TV show episode in which the ID thief “accidentally” bumps into the target and silently and stealthily relieves them of their work security ID. Believe it or not, it actually happens. People in many high security settings are losing their work security IDs through smart and deceitful means—but that doesn’t have to be the story in your place of work. Instead of clipping your all important ID to your pocket, your purse, or some other “easy to bump place”, why not hang it around your neck where it’s easily accessible for security purposes, but not so accessible for the “accidental” bumping.

When you want to up your security measures without having to install a whole new state of the art security system, you should consider something simple and inexpensive—badge reels and lanyards are one way. Badge reels are a security badge accessory that allows the badge wearer to slide their security ID without having to remove it from their neck, keychain, or pocket clip. With badge reels there is a less likelihood that the ID will be dropped or misplaced once it’s been swiped.

A badge reel can be more than just a security measure. They can also be special ordered with advertising in mind; placing the company or business name on them, the name of the person wearing them, or even a special picture or icon. Badge reels can be customized to fit the look and feel of the company.

Lanyards are simple yet effective identity theft prevention devices. A lanyard is hung around the neck and clips securely to the security ID badge. This means that the ID badge is only handled in the employee’s home when they put it on in the morning, and at night when they return home. Unless thieves can find a way to cut the lanyard from your neck, they shouldn’t be able to take your ID badge from you. Sure, there are thieves that will try to rob you of your security ID badge no matter where it’s located, but remaining conscious of your security at work will enable you to avoid mishaps when it comes to the ID card you wear.

Lanyards can also be customized. They can be made using ribbon or beads strung together on very durable steel or metal compounds. The ribbon lanyard can be embroidered with a wide array of stylish designs suitable for any setting. Because they are becoming increasingly popular, lanyards are available in a wide array of different ribbon colors. Beaded lanyards are very stylish and can be special ordered in various bead colors, bead patterns, shapes, sizes, and designs. The beaded lanyard is especially popular in hospital settings where nurses must wear ID badges, but want lanyards that provide a little ‘oomph’ to their hospital scrubs.

Now you know that something as simple and inexpensive as badge reels and lanyards can be used as a security measure, you should consider getting some. The world can be an unsecure place; make sure that your business or company is one step ahead in the security game.

Freshen Up Your Appreciation for Your Office Assistant

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Where would an executive be without his or her administrative staff? Administrative assistants work tirelessly to organize, plan, and troubleshoot so that the office functions smoothly. They are unsung heroes—a big reason behind the success of a company. It is important that we remember these valuable members of our company.

Over the years, executive have sought to show their appreciation for their support staff. Whether it be during Administrative Assistant week, before Christmas, or any other time of the year, bosses everywhere have seen the need to pay tribute to their staff. As a result, there are a few things that have become the “norm” for gift giving:

1. Flowers.
Flowers are nice, but eventually they die. Flowers are nice from time to time, but they should be the exception rather than the rule.

2. Candy. This probably ranks #2 on the “gift-giving?” list. Like flowers, candy doesn’t last long, and dieters may not appreciate the added temptation.

3. Candle. Nothing says impersonal like a candle. Especially from a male executive to a female assistant, what gets communicated is “I know ladies like candles, so here’s one for you.”

4. Office Supplies. Honestly, office supplies? Sad, but it is true, every year assistants receive as “gifts” items that are essential to their job. One must wonder if those bosses also gave their wives a set of jumper cables for their anniversary.

5. Gift Card. This is perhaps the most useful, but it still lacks personality.
Fortunately, there are newer, fresher ways to show your appreciation to your administrative assistant. Here are a few ideas:

6. Handwritten Letter of Thanks.
Factory produced thank-you cards are nice, but if you just sign your name and lick the envelope you lose a tremendous opportunity to honor your assistant. When you write out by hand a note of thanks you communicate that you care. There is something uniquely personal about handwriting. Tell your assistant what an asset they are, why you enjoy working with them, and how much you respect them. Be willing to be open with them. Your sincere words of affirmation will energize them in their job.

7. Themed Picture Frame.
This is a gift that has lasting power. Get them a picture frame that fits their personality or where they are at in life. If you know they just became a grandparent, get them something themed towards grandparents or grandkids. If they like cats, get them a frame with kittens on it. If they are a sports fanatic, get them a frame with their favorite team. The possibilities are endless. The point is, know your assistant and get them something that is a reflection of who they are.

8. Designer lanyards and id badge holders.
Office settings require company identification to be kept on your person. Typically employees are issued generic id badge holders and lanyards. However, designer id badge holder or themed lanyards can really bring style to an otherwise functional accessory. If your assistant is female, consider a beaded lanyard. This can be a unique way to purchase your assistant jewelry without getting too personal or crossing any boundaries.

9. Thoughtful Gift Card.
Gift cards can be boring, but they don’t have to be. If you know your assistant, you can be intentional about the gift card you give. Has your assistant wanted to take their spouse to that new restaurant? Get them a card to cover the amount of a nice dinner. Does your assistant like to go to sporting events or concerts? Get them a Ticketmaster gift card along with the team or theater’s upcoming schedule. A thoughtful gift card lets them know you care them enough to know about them.

A little present can mean a lot, show your employees how much you apreciate their hard work.

Fundraising Ideas : People Want to Give

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Fundraising has become the lifeblood of many businesses, organizations, and non-profit foundations. Without annual or semi-annual fundraisers, many wouldn’t have the money they need to function at full capacity. Organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Big Brother’s Big Sisters, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and the like are all experts at running a successful fundraising campaign. But what can people do; the people who aren’t a part of a big non-profit but still see to the needs, and do the same good works that these organizations do?

Planning and running a small time fundraiser can be challenging, but if you are willing to work hard, think outside the box, and do some legwork, you can raise the funds you need to aid these organizations and help them do what they do best—help others.

Key Chains

Key chains are practically required for anyone who has any type of key. The house key, mail key, car key, lock key, boat key, etc. all need some place to roost that won’t get easily lost or forgotten. Using key chains as the sellable item in a fundraiser is a great way to get some much needed funds. Buying plain key chains from wholesalers isn’t ideal; you’ll want to personalize the key chains to symbolize your cause or use the icon or mascot of the organization directly (this would require authorization).

Beaded Lanyards

Another useful accessory that people snatch up at fundraisers is a lanyard. Lanyards are worn around the neck and can be clipped to everyday items and secured in place. These items include: iPods, MP3 players, eyeglasses, sunglasses, ID badges, name tags, medals, or even key chains! One of the most popular types of lanyard is beaded lanyards; which differ from the usual ribbon lanyard because beads can be customized in different colors, patterns, and bead types. If you are raising funds for breast cancer research, you could offer special beaded lanyards that have been designed with the recognizable colors and emblems for research. Beaded lanyards aren’t a very common fundraising item (no one really even knows what a lanyard is, even though they may NEED one..or two) but you’ll find that there are people in many walks of life who would love to own one.

Wristbands

The lanyard for the wrist, the wristband, is another hot seller that brings in the people and the funds for worthy causes. Wristbands are very popular with Livestrong.com (yellow), Susan G. Komen (pink), and WWJD (black). Wristbands can come in many different colors, designs, and even come with attached charms. These colors, designs, and charms can be personalized or customized for your particular fundraiser or organization. Wristbands are easy to wear, can match uniforms and outfits, and can be removed when needed.

Odds and Ends

Other really popular fundraiser items are: t-shirts, hats, jackets, sweaters, mugs, magnets, pens (ballpoint and shirt), mouse pads, bumper stickers, and bandanas. Any of these items, when customized and sold through your fundraiser, can easily raise much needed monies.

You can raise money for worthy causes without being an organization. If you see a need you can help meet that need by raising money. Good luck.

Great Instruments Need Great Accessories For Sure

Monday, January 31st, 2011

There are many people in the world today who have to have a wonderful keyboard at their disposal. To make sure that they remain comfortable while practicing or playing the machine, they often have to find some accessories to assist them in this. An artist piano bench or duet piano bench are just two such accessories which can make life easier, particularly if there are pupils which need close watching while they play.

Although this kind of seating comes in the single person variety, many people will opt for the dual variety just in case they get someone who also wants to play along with them. Teachers find it much easier to be looking down on the hands of their pupils while they play and it often shows up some bad habits that are forming too.

Some people like to sit alone of course and for these there are individual stools available. All of them come in beautiful wooden finishes so that it can be mixed or matched in with existing furnishing and fittings.

There are other accessories too which may make life that much more comfortable. Cushions in wonderful designs are made to fit the existing seating with some having great musical scores embroidered across them. This not only looks good, it also gives those who are learning the enthusiasm to become more proficient at what they are doing.

For those who like something a little plainer, there are many varieties of cushioning in plush or leather materials in deep, rich colors which really look very elegant. It just depends on what the person wants but there is bound to be something which fits the bill perfectly.

To aid in viewing the music while the player is doing his thing, there are many lamps and lights on the market which are made specifically with this instrument in mind. Some sit on top of the keyboard and shine directly onto the music score without dazzling the player, while others are floor standing and can be used to light the room even when the instrument is at rest. Since all of these come in a variety of finishes, there is one which will suit any decor perfectly of course.

A cover for the instrument is also a good idea in the modern homes of today. Air conditioning and heating vents play havoc with these old machines and they can dry out and split if care is not taken. Obviously, this will have a detrimental effect on the tone of the machine since it was built for older homes with no heating as such.

Finding a good company which can provide these tailor-made covers, or ones in stock which fit standard sizes, is important since this will keep it in prime condition for future generations to enjoy. Indeed, most instruments in homes have been passed down through the family and it would be such a shame to see something this valued ruined by the heating systems of today. Such companies exist and they can be found on the internet.

Stewart Wrighter researched purchasing a duet piano bench for his piano. His sister was very pleased with her artist piano bench that she recently ordered online.

Staying Organized As An Educator

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Organization is a must for educators. With so many papers, students, and dates to keep track of, teachers have their hands full. Here are four ideas for staying organized:

1. Use Color-Coding To Organize Subjects Or Classes.

Organizing subjects or classes into different folders is a good way to keep track of your classroom materials, but why take organization to the next level? If you are an elementary teacher, color-code by subject. If you teach upper grades, color-code by class. When a certain color is assigned to a class or subject, you will immediately be able to classify a teaching material when you see it. Color-code your file folders, grade papers in the corresponding color of ink, and when feasible print (or highlight) master copies of worksheets, tests, and handouts in their appropriate color. Color-coding the assignments you write on the board makes the board easy to use for both you and your students.

2. Keep Good Records.

It is not hard to get overwhelmed as a teacher, especially when something goes wrong. However, it is during those chaotic times when the need for organization is at a premium. Keep a three ring binder dedicated to behavioral issues. No matter what your disciplinary format, it is important to document key events. Obviously major incidents will require formal documentation for your administration, but it is a good idea to document lesser disciplinary issues for yourself so you can look back on them and identify patterns. Such a file can include non-disciplinary issues as well. Write down insights you have about individual students that may help you better reach them in the future.

3. Keep A Phone Book & Log.

Keep a pocket-sized phone book that is designated for school use only. Include numbers for those parents whom you may need to call often. In addition to the list of numbers, keep a phone log where you can document the phone calls that you make, or plan to make.

4. Create A School Bag

Put together a bag or briefcase that you can take back and forth from home to school. Make sure it is big enough to hold a few file folders or three ring binders so you can keep things organized as you take papers home to grade. Keep your phone book, phone log, and a pocket calendar in your bag at all times.

Keep your school id badge in the bag, or consider fastening your badge to the bag with a badge holder. If you add a badge reel you can use your badge without having to take it off of your bag. A designed badge holder and badge reel will add some personality to your bag.

Carry only essential items to class with you. Include a small amount of cash in a small purse in case you need it. Keep your school keys in the purse, that way you know if you have your purse, you have your school keys.

Making A Good Impression In A Professional Conference

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Networking is a big part of the world of business. One of the best places to network is at a professional conference. Whether you are a professional who one day may be looking for a new position or a vendor who is looking for new clients, conferences provide a good venue for relationship building within your field.

Since conferences provide such a unique opportunity, it is important that you make a good impression to those you interact with. Here are a few tips:

1. Come Prepared With Business Cards. Having business cards with you won’t necessarily put you ahead of anyone else at the conference (virtually everyone brings them), but not having them available will most certainly put you behind. You want potential clients or employers to be able to contact you. Win them over as you interact, then give them your card so they can get in touch with you.

2. Dress Professionally, Yet Comfortably. It is very important that you dress to impress, but it is also important that you are comfortable. Many conferences are held in vast convention centers where it is required that you do a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes and loose fitting clothing.

One way distinguishing yourself is to display your conference id with style. Typically conference personnel pass out lanyards and badge holders at the beginning of the conference. Look into beaded lanyards for badges as a way of standing out among the crowd. Consider designed lanyards and badge holders that will really get the attention of employers or clients. When everyone else has their conference-issued lanyards and badge holders and you are walking around with something difference, others will be sure to notice. Beaded lanyards for badges are usually inexpensive and can be used in the everyday workplace when you return back to work.

3. Keep Mints Handy.

Bad breath can be a major deterrent to successful networking. Since you may not be able to brush your teeth throughout the day, keep mints with you to keep your breath fresh. Avoid gum since it isn’t professional if your potential clients and employers see you chewing throughout the day.

4. Be A Good Listener.

It isn’t just about selling yourself; it is about making quality connections with others in your industry as you network. Listen to the needs of potential clients or employers. When they know you have an interest in what they do or what they need, they will be more receptive to listening to how you may be able to help them. Listen for something you may be able to connect with them about. Connecting on a personal level increases the interest others will show for what you have to offer.

5. Be Positive.

You may be interested in interviewing for a new position, but be positive about the position that you have. You may try to convince potential clients that your product or service is the best value, but resist the urge to slam your competitors. Negativity is a turn-off. Sell yourself (or your product) without tearing down anyone else.

With these simple tips not only you will take more out of your conference but also have a better time.
